How To Perfectly Dry Oranges – Cozy Cottage Orange Garland

by Contributing Author

Every year I find myself drying oranges for different projects such as garlands, jar stuffers, and various other Christmas decoration arrangements. I love the natural, organic coziness they bring to our décor and the pop of color in our neutral hues. I’ve included the process I used to get the below. Each year I try different processes, but this year all the oranges dried evenly without burning, making them the prettiest dried oranges I’ve ever seen. I used a photo of an orange slice from the past, which was a little “well done”, but I still like it because of the deep earthy tones. Slices of oranges obtained in this way…

How to dry my perfect orange slices:

Some tips that I think work best:

-I’ve learned that it’s best to go slow and steady!! It gives me more control and reduces spontaneous burnt oranges and uneven cooking.

・Let’s use the roast truck! Heating evenly around the orange, not just the bottom or top of the orange, makes a difference.

-Before putting the oranges in the oven, dry them as much as possible with a paper towel. Oranges are very juicy and “pre-dried” helps a lot.

・Preheat the oven to 200 degrees

・Slice the mandarin oranges in half. 1/8 inch thick piece. This doesn’t have to be exact, but make sure it’s not too thick as it can make the drying process much longer and make it “even” impossible.

-Place the oranges evenly on the roasting rack of the cookie sheet

– Take a paper towel and dry all the oranges completely. Repeat this several times to absorb more juice from the orange.

-Put the oranges in the oven. Hopefully, place it in the middle of the oven to a lower level for more even cooking.

-Slow and steady method: 4-6 hours at 200 degrees. Set an alarm and check from time to time to make sure they are not burning and that everything is baking evenly. please look. You can also choose any color you like.

-Once mine is “done,” I leave it in the oven until it cools.

– REMEMBER ALL OVENS ARE DIFFERENT!! You know your oven best. It can also go down to 175 degrees in the same amount of time. Find your sweet spot!
