Herb-Marinated Air Fryer Chicken Thighs (Video)

I used a marinated garlic, lemon, and herb grilled chicken breast that I used to make when I had summer dinner guests.

But I’m not trying to convince you to buy an air fryer if you don’t already have one, so I’ll show you how to make this delicious chicken dinner in the oven. So, work this idea into your dinner rotation and see what you think!

What air fryer did you use?

i absolutely love Cuisinart convection air fryer toaster oven (affiliate link). It was an investment, but I use the toaster oven part a lot and love the convenience of having a large basket on this machine and an air fryer that you can keep on the counter. The air fryer I used to cook 8 chicken thighs at once, but smaller models may only fit 6 chicken thighs.

Low-carb herb marinade air fryer (or oven) chicken thighs found on KalynsKitchen.com

Chicken marinade for air fryer chicken thighs:

  1. Remove some of the skin and most of the fat from the chicken thighs. (I used kitchen scissors (affiliate link) Trim the chicken. )
  2. I like to make short cuts in the skin and meat of the chicken before marinating, but it’s not necessary.
  3. Mix the marinade ingredients together, place the chicken in a ziplock bag or container, cover tightly, add the marinade, and marinate the chicken in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours, or all day at work.
  4. When cooking, drain the chicken in a colander over the sink and discard the marinade.
  5. Place the chicken face-up in the airfryer basket or baking rack and preheat the airfryer to 360F/185C (if needed) or preheat the oven to 400F/200C while allowing the chicken to come to room temperature.

To cook chicken in an air fryer:

  1. Cook chicken in preheated air fryer for 8 minutes.
  2. Then flip the chicken thighs over and grill for another 6 minutes.
  3. After 6 minutes, check chicken for over browning, and rearrange chicken thighs in air fryer basket if necessary. (You can’t see it in the picture, but I replaced the brown part on the outside with the inside.)
  4. Cook about 6 more minutes or until chicken skin is crisp and internal temperature is at least 165F/75C.
  5. use the instant read meat thermometer (affiliate link) See this if you have one.

To cook chicken in the oven:

  1. If you have a baking rack with hot air flowing around the chicken, use that over the baking sheet.
  2. Bake chicken side down in preheated oven for 10 minutes.
  3. Then flip the chicken over and cook it about 25 minutes longer and start checking after 20 minutes.
  4. Cook until chicken is golden brown, skin is crispy, and internal temperature is at least 165F/75C.

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • 2 tsp lemon juice (see note)

  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder

  • Use 1 tsp Spike Seasoning, or any general-purpose herb blend.

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  3. Place the chicken thighs in a resealable bag or plastic container, add the marinade, and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours, or all day at work.
  4. When cooking, drain the chicken in a colander over the sink and discard the marinade.
  5. Place the chicken face-up in the airfryer basket or baking rack and preheat the airfryer to 360F/185C (if needed) or preheat the oven to 400F/200C while allowing the chicken to come to room temperature.
  6. To cook in the air fryer: Cook the chicken top side down in the preheated air fryer for 8 minutes. Then flip the chicken thighs over and grill for another 6 minutes. After 6 minutes, check to see if the chicken is over browned, and rearrange the chicken thighs in the air fryer basket if necessary. (I switched the outer browned part to the inside, otherwise I would have had some browned parts.) Cook about 6 minutes or until chicken is well browned with crisp skin. . Internal temperature is at least 165F/75C.
  7. To cook in the oven: If you have a baking rack with hot air flowing around the chicken, place it on a baking sheet. Bake chicken face down in preheated oven for 10 minutes. Then flip the chicken over and cook about 25 minutes longer or until the chicken is browned, the skin is crispy and the internal temperature is at least 165F/75C.
  8. No matter what cooking method you use, instant read meat thermometer (affiliate link) If you have chicken, check the internal temperature of the chicken.
  9. while it’s hot. If you use an air fryer and for a large family he needs to cook two batches, he keeps the first batch warm in the oven at 200F/100C and cooks the second batch.

Herb-marinated air-fryer chicken thighs are good for low-carb diets, including the keto diet. The Original South Beach Diet specifically discourages chicken thighs with skin on, but I personally don’t care too much and eat them for South Beach.You can also remove the South Beach skin if you prefer
