my fitness story

I’ve always loved fitness, but I’ve been sporadic about working out my entire adult life. I went a month or two where I was really consistent about it. Then I had a busy few months where I didn’t exercise at all.

Sometimes I was even motivated enough to run certain programs. However, after the program ended, I gave up the habit of exercising. This makes you feel like you’re gaining extra pounds, feeling tired, lethargic, and “blah”.

Then a few years ago, I had the surgery I needed, one of the side effects of which was an increased risk of osteoporosis and heart disease. I knew I had to do both. I had to find a way to be consistent in the long run.

One proven strategy I’ve found to bring consistency to any routine, especially healthy eating and exercise, is to track your progress.

Yes, it’s an extra step. But writing down your workouts and logging your meals is essential to maintaining your health and fitness goals long-term. By tracking my workouts and building a consistent exercise routine, I ended up working out for 515 straight days. (Don’t worry, I’ve been doing some light yoga or stretching for at least a day or a week.)

I ended up breaking the streak on purpose because I hit my target. Exercise is now my habit.

I also know that having a habit of writing down what I eat does a much better job of making healthy choices because it holds me accountable. I’ve read studies where participants who tracked lost twice as much weight as those who didn’t, which seems like a pretty compelling statistic!)

Developing healthy habits can help you feel better and have more energy. And now I feel more confident about my bone and mental health!
