What is an extended tummy tuck?
An extended tummy tuck is considered similar to a regular tummy tuck and is sometimes called abdominoplasty, but it does more than simply reduce excess skin and fat on the abdomen.
It also targets the ribcage, or the area between the hips and hips. In some cases, abdominal tucks also affect excess skin on the sides of the thighs.
Ideal candidates for tummy tucks are those who have lost a lot of weight and have excess skin, as well as those who want to lose weight on their stomach and abdomen.
How much does an extended tummy tuck cost?
The cost of an extended tummy tuck varies depending on the surgeon, the amount of fat, and the size of the area.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost of an abdominal tuck (without extension) was $6,092 in 2019. Costs can be higher because an elongated stomach is more involved.

How do extended tummy tucks work?
A tummy tuck works by removing excess skin and fat from the abdomen and repairing loose or torn muscles.

Extended Tummy Tuck Procedure

As with all surgeries, the tummy tuck comes with some risks and side effects. One study found that 8.5% of those who had tummy tuck surgery were readmitted due to some complication. These complications and side effects include:

- Whether and when you can drink alcohol or certain medications or supplements.
- Duration of wearing compression stockings.
- How to handle the drainage tube when used by the surgeon.
- When to schedule follow-up appointments.
Even if your abdomen is swollen and bandaged, you can see some results immediately.
For the first few weeks, it is recommended to rest at an angle and avoid strenuous activity or heavy lifting.
The swelling will subside in 2-3 months, but some scars may remain.
After 6 months to 1 year, you will see full results as long as you don’t gain a lot of weight or become pregnant.

Before undergoing a long tummy tuck, you may need a blood test to make sure you are healthy.
You can also meet with your surgeon to discuss what to expect. You will also need to arrange your return flight.
